I am so excited about the Bridal Shower that took place last weekend. The bride-to-be lives in the Financial District of San Francisco, and therefore is exposed to amazing food every day. When planning the shower it was key the venue represent the Bride’s taste and the elegance of her city. The event took place at the gorgeous Wayfare Tavern in the Financial District. The flower arrangements were provided by La Mer de Fleurs. The arrangements captured exactly what the host intended – elegance, beauty, simplicity and bridal. The cake pops were the hit of the event and were provided by the impeccable Sweet Lauren Cakes. The pops carried home the bridal theme with adorable Tiffany boxes.

It is that time of year again – stockings on the mantle, dreidels at the ready, and holiday parties galore. The excitement of throwing a holiday party can often be overpowered by your growing task list. So how do you ensure you can actually enjoy the party you’ve spent hours preparing? First of all, decide what is most important to you when hosting a party. Does the party need your family’s famous homemade bread, a festive cocktail or a custom built play list? Once you have made your list of priorities, rank the other party elements accordingly. If you want to drip your home in all of your favorite holiday decor consider catering the party from your favorite local restaurant. If you plan to only serve homemade treats consider making small tweaks to your usual recipes. Pumpkin puree in your rice krispie treats or a little bit of food coloring in your sugar cookies can make a big splash. No matter what you decide to do, allow yourself 30 minutes before the party starts to take a breath and look around at all you have accomplished!

Of course you know they will look adorable in their tiny tuxes and heels, but what they do in those outfits is unforgettable.

Often the children in the wedding party were chosen for their roles because of their parents’ relationship with the bride and groom. This means the parents are usually standing front and center and unable to help their children with the long trek down the aisle.

I’ve been to two weddings this month where the smallest members of the wedding party had the biggest impact. At the first the ring bearer made it a couple steps down the aisle before doing an about-face and running for dear life. He eventually made it up front to stand with his dad, a groomsmen. The second wedding had a beautiful little flower girl, complete with flowers in her hair. She didn’t even make it onto the aisle before fear overtook her. No amount of candy could get her down the aisle. Her mother, a bridesmaid, eventually walked back down the aisle to pick up the screaming girl and take her to her place.

Both children were adorable and precious, though a little shook up from their experiences with the aisle. Remember when selecting your wedding party that children add so much to the entire day – most notably the element of surprise!

Planning an event can be completely overwhelming, but the details don’t have to bog you down. The key with any event is personalization. Why are you planning this event? What emotional tie do you have, and what emotions do you want your guests to experience? What would you love to see or do if you were a guest at the event? Do you actually want a candy bar or do you want one because its the latest trend? (Candy does put a smile on pretty much everyone’s face.) What do you like to do everyday and what do you like to do only once in awhile? Incorporate those details! Find something exciting as the central theme of the event and you will never tire of brainstorming about the details. If you love to garden every day, sure you can work succulents into your decor but why stop there? Have your favorite flowers be your table names, but instead of writing the name on the table create different centerpieces for each table highlighting that flower. Your guests will learn more about you, learn more about flowers and enjoy a vast array of gorgeous flowers. Take the idea a step further and have seed packets for each flower incorporated in the place setting.

Be sure to look through pictures of similar events, but remember this is only a guide. The best ideas for your event come from you! After all, events are crazy, emotional, but most of all fun. Remember why you set out to hold the event in the first place and you can get through anything!
